Jay Z Talks About Early Days Dealing Drugs
(Ronald Martinez/Getty Images) Hip-hop mogul and sports business entrepreneur Jay Z said in the November issue of Vanity Fair that his past life as a drug dealer is helping so far in his current role as a player agent for the Roc Nation Sports agency he founded earlier this year. The 43-year-old said that having dealt drugs has helped him understand budgets, a knowledge and skill that he has taken with him to positions including former minority owner of the Brooklyn Nets and current owner of the new sports agency. Vanity Fair reported that Jay Z said the following about how his checkered past will help him in his new job as a sports agent: I know about budgets. I was a drug dealer. To be in a drug deal, you need to know what you can spend, what you need to re-up. Or if you want to start some sort of barbershop or car washthose were the businesses back then. Things you can get in easily to get out of [that] life. The newly formed group already boasts a number of high-profile athletes, including Oklahoma City All-Star forward Kevin Durant, Victor Cruz of the New York Giants, rookie quarterback Geno Smith of the New York Jets and Skylar Diggins of the Tulsa Shock. The agency also represents New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, who is said to be asking for a contract upwards of $300 million this offseason . In September, Jay Z sold his minority shares in the Nets to the teams new head coach, Jason Kidd. The sale was prompted by a league rule that forbids individuals with a stake in a particular team from also representing NBA players.

How? Obama has figured prominently in Jay Z’s work as of late, with direct references in songs like “Open Letter” and a remix of “B-tch Don’t Kill My Vibe” . There are also more references to the president on the rapper’s latest album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail.” The 43-year-old and wife Beyonce fundraised heavily for Obama during the 2008 election . Jay Z: Obama’s Election ‘Renewed My Spirit For America’
“At some point, you have to have an exit strategy, because your window is very small. You’re going to get locked up, or you’re going to die,” he revealed. When asked about whether wife Beyonce was still a good girl , he replied with, “Nah. She’s gangsta now.” Love them. Lastly, Barbara Walters apologizes to Katy Perry .Well, sorta. The beef started when the singer showed up late to Walters’ interview for her “10 Most Fascinating People” piece. When Katy got to the interview, Barbara snapped at her, saying, “You know, I’ve only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland . You know how she turned out, right?” On the Sept. 30 episode of The View, the hostaddressed the comment. “If I made you feel at all unhappy, during a time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn’t know, I’m sorry,” she said.”But you can’t always know!” Be sure to check us out Live From E! every day at 12:30 p.m. ET/9:30 a.m.
In 2011, Jay Z name-checked Swiss watch brand Hublot on the track “Otis”: “New watch alert; Hublots / Or the big face Rollie; I got two of those,” rhymes Jay on the track. Now, two years later, Hov is getting a Hublot collection of his very own. Forbes reports that Jay and the company have partnered to launch “Shawn Carter by Hublot” Classic Fusion watches. The watches come in either black ceramic or 18k yellow gold. The 45mm-wide watches contain Hublot HUB1300 manually-wound movement that has 90 hours of power reserve. Jay and Hublot will launch the watch collection together with the Barney’s “A New York HOliday” shopping experience at the New York Store that the rapper has curated himself. The launch takes place on November 20. The watches are limited edition, with 250 black ceramic and just 100 18k gold ones produced. Prices are $17,900 and $33,900 respectively. The partnership is hardly the first product deal that has been foreshadowed by Jay Z’s lyrics. In 2007, GMC partnered with Jay to release the “Jay Z Blue” Yukon Denali SUV, referencing Jay’s lyric on Young Jeezy’s “Go Crazy” remix: “My favorite hue is Jay Z blue.” This is a test of the error system Add New Comment Got an account with one of these?
